The Mugello is a majestic, beautiful part of Tuscany, sitting in the hills above noble Florence where the Renaissance was born. Well known as it is for its nature and food, you’ll find here also the birthplace of some of the great artists of that period. Giotto and Cimabue, two of the greats, both lived in Vicchio, home to our Villa Campestri Olive Oil resort. Beato Angelico was also born in this magical area. Below we give a taste of this artistic heritage and atmosphere, and we’ll also tell you about the art classes we offer at Villa Campestri, through which we hope to lend a touch to the true spirit of the Mugello.
Birthplace of Giotto, Beato Angelico and Cimabue, three of the greatest Italian artists, the elegant and refined Mugello is a generous mix of the old and the new. Those of us who live here are enormously proud of our heritage, a pride that extends to some of the greatest works of these artists hanging here in Vicchio and elsewhere in the Mugello that give witness today to a great part of our historic culture. We at Villa Campestri know what it means to fall in love with these places, with the hills and the nature that surround us, as do our guests who have come to enjoy it all with us.
In keeping with this unforgettable patrimony, our great artistic and cultural heritage, we have decided to offer our guests a moment of connecting: courses of old ways in painting and art given by Alain Pascuzzi, a specialist in 13th century painting and drawing techniques such as egg tempera, gold leaf, fresco, drawing with charcoal and brush, pen and ink along with silver-tipping methods.
For a moment you can imagine yourself a Giotto or Cimabue, gaze at the same scenes that inspired these two great artists. It is a special experience that we are able to offer our guests to intensify their appreciation of the magical atmosphere of these surroundings.
