Gabbianello Oasis on the Bilancino Lake is not the only oasis in Mugello. From this year there is a new protected area: the Oasis of Covigliaio, Firenzuola.
Managed by Coldiretti and Legambiente, the area covers about 650 hectares, between the “Passo della Raticosa” and the “Passo della Futa”, and consists mainly of woods, especially beeches and fir trees, which provide shelter to wild ships, deers, wolves and hawks.
The place is perfect for walking lovers: boards will show you the maps marked with the different routes that you can follow, as well as plants and animals you might find in the area. From next year Coldiretti and Legambiente have also announced the organization of guided tours.
The management of the forests of the oasis of Covigliaio also allows you to get the wood for biomass used by the population of the area to produce energy in an environmentally friendly way, from the cultivation of some land are derived organic products such as cereals and fodder for animals as well as potatoes and barley, which can be purchased at the Agricultural Cooperative of Firenzuola.
Part of the territory is dedicate to the organic livestock whose meat is sold to businesses in the area but also to the individual visitor.
