Autumn is a magical season in Tuscany: the nature is painted with a thousand colors, the air becomes fresher and the light takes gold shades. An ideal time for a holiday in Mugello, where nature and history are the protagonists, and where you can practice outdoor sports. After the heat of July and August, fresher temperatures allow not only to take long walks or mountain bike trails to explore the woods and hidden churches, but to be busy in myriad of activities: from the glider flight, to horse riding, to golf. The mild climate allows you to still enjoy the full beauty and tranquility of Bilancino Lake, where bathing facilities are open until September 30th: you can sunbathe on the lake or practice sports activities like windsurfing, sailing or fishing. If you love birds, you can not miss the WWF Gabbianello Oasis.
Lovers of art and history can instead discover the towns and castles dotted across the area, without sharing these wonders with too many tourists: Trebbio Castle, Villa Demidoff in Pratolino, or more Medici Villas in the area, Vicchio, the birthplace of Giotto, the medieval villages of Scarperia, Marradi or Firenzuola.
Autumn season in Mugello is especially for lovers of good food. After the many festivals dedicated to tortello potatoes, the real masters are now the Mugello Chestnut, called “Marrone” and the black and white truffles: Mugello Chestnut, which has also obtained the IGP certification, is harvested between October and November, and is used to produce the famous flour chestnut, the prized white and black truffles are harvested instead in Mugello from September to December. They are the protagonists of festivals and events of this period.
