Lampredotto: all the taste of street food in Florence

Florentine Lampredotto with Villa Campestri Olive Oil Resort

Lampredotto is a typical dish of Florentine cuisine, it is part of the famous Tuscan cuisine.
The protagonist of this renowned dish is the bovine, the part concerned is the stomach. Obviously it is not a dish for those with a weak or sensitive stomach. It is certainly a strong and important dish. At least once in your life we recommend tasting it because it will amaze you!

What is the Lampredotto

The lampredotto is known above all as poor street food, nowadays it is mostly found in the lampredottai.

They are the street kiosks, they are found throughout the Tuscany region and mainly in Florence. Everyone will let you taste this recipe if you like it.

Street food is a fashion that never goes away, it changes shape, appearance, price, but it doesn’t give up.

It is the host in every regional capital in Italy, but also in the smaller towns and villages.

The lampredotto is part of this street culture, which fascinates foreign tourists and increasingly convinces the people who live in the neighboring towns.

The preparation of the lampredotto: Florentine recipe

We get to the most important part: the recipe for the preparation of lampredotto, which is not at all simple.

This traditional Florentine dish is a culinary must for some and a never-before-seen novelty for others.

The Tuscan tradition, as we know, is rich in culinary traditions of a certain depth.

The preparation of the lampredotto, not easy and long enough, consists of:

• choose a piece of the bovine’s stomach

• flavor it according to the original recipe

• add a vegetable broth (celery, onion, carrots, tomatoes)

• cook it for a minimum of 3 hours, up to 4 hours, where necessary

• once cooked the lampredotto must be thinly cut into strips; a bit frayed like kebabs

• the broth used for cooking must be poured on the bread to wet it and flavor it

• last step, before tasting, close the bread stuffed with lampredotto and serve warm

Lampredotto: but how much does it cost

The lampredotto has an affordable price, it is a typical dish but it does not have an excessive cost.

Anyone visiting Florence, but in general a bit of the whole Tuscany region, can try it at the “lampredottai”.

Only in this way will you be able to realize how delicious, succulent, refined and not expensive a recipe is.

In short, suitable for everyone: from foreign tourists visiting beautiful Florence, to the Florentines themselves, passing through all the Italians who occasionally take a trip out of town to Tuscany.

If you are skeptical and afraid of spending who knows what amount, do not worry, it is not so.

The important thing is to try to change your mind and taste one of the most typical and traditional dishes of Florentine cuisine.

In this way you will be able to recommend this unique dish, surprising in taste, with a long cooking and complex preparation to friends and relatives visiting Tuscany.
