Leonardo da Vinci: the genius of Anchiano
It is difficult to find anyone, in the whole Western world, who has never heard of Leonardo da Vinci. But maybe not everyone knows the details of his life. Let’s retrace together the most important moments of Anchiano’s genius!
Who is Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci was born in Anchiano (town of Vinci) in 1452, from a high-ranking family.
At sixteen, his father sent him to Andrea Verrocchio’s workshop, where his first skills and knowledge in various fields explode.
From art to science, from architecture to anatomy.
Leonardo Da Vinci is also the author of the absolute and undisputed world-famous work: the Gioconda.
Also known as Mona Lisa, it is an oil painting on poplar wood panel, made between 1503 and 1504.
The painting is currently kept in the Louvre in Paris.
Tradition holds that the work represents the Lady, (Madonna) Lisa Gherardini.

The science of Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci is not only an artist but also a scientist. During his life he used to try his hand at complex calculations and represent the probable geometric relationships.

Leonardo Da Vinci is not only concerned with surface artistic anatomy, but also with the musculoskeletal system, body movements, levers and the forces he produces.
He developed some antidotes to poisons, saving lives.
Professor Stefaan Missinne asserts that the representation of the globe belongs to Leonardo Da Vinci, based on a drawing by him dating back to 1503, preserved in the British Library.
Classified so far as a representation of the moon, but which would instead be a preliminary study for the globe.
It would be the first world map with the names of countries such as Brazil, Germany, Russia, Scotland, Armenia, Judea, Italy and so on.
In part, the representation of the continent of America would also appear.

Leonardo Da Vinci had a strong instinct for discovery, a desire to travel.
Precisely in his life he traveled a lot and from this passion, it is believed, he created his globe.
Leonardo Da Vinci’s globe, built with two hemispheres, obtained from the underside of ostrich eggs.
In the lower hemisphere there is a counterweight, composed of calcium, mixed with egg white, whose purpose is to keep the globe in the correct position; since it doesn’t have any kind of frame.
Travels lead Leonardo Da Vinci to always discover new things.

All these differences have fascinated, kidnapped, inspired and intrigued the genius of Leonardo Da Vinci.
