Argentario and Maremma: the best excursions
Tuscany is a region to be discovered, full of wonderful landscapes and breathtaking views that are really worth seeing for yourself. In particular, we want to consider two specific areas of the region: the Maremma and the Argentario. The first represents an extended geographical area between Tuscany and Lazio, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, with a predominantly flat, alluvial but also hilly area. The second, on the other hand, represents a promontory surrounded by the sea, a place particularly suitable for tourists due to the mild climate and the many activities offered. Both are areas particularly suitable for trekking and excursions, so let’s see the best itineraries.
Best excursions in Argentario
The Argentario offers splendid views of the Tuscan archipelago and there are many paths proposed that you can go on foot or by bicycle to discover the area in all its beauty.
Among the perfect itineraries for hiking there are some particularly popular ones that allow you to relax and admire the landscapes offered by the Mediterranean scrub.
From Porto Santo Stefano to Capo d’Uomo
This first itinerary offers a path that gradually narrows towards the destination. During the walk you leave the town and from that moment you can admire the sea and the Giglio Island in the distance. On the way back, it is possible to go down into the woods and choose alternative routes to lengthen the excursion.
Nature trail to the Feniglia Dune
Here is a very popular route that allows direct contact with the surrounding environment, also suitable for people with any disabilities.
This path, located at the entrance to the Feniglia, on the Porto Ercole side, has 15 stations joined by a wooden handrail.
Along the way there are also tables in Braille, in which it is possible to discover the different aspects of the Duna nature reserve, as well as tactile notice boards to get to know its characteristics.
The path, 850 meters long, takes about an hour and a half.
Best excursions in Maremma
The Maremma area also offers many paths and itineraries perfect for excursions that allow you to admire the nature of the place from optimal positions and take advantage of a splendid sea. Let’s see the best routes.
Abbey of San Rabano and Torre Uccellina
This first route starts from the Alberese Visitor Center, from which a shuttle takes you to Pinottolai. From here you cross the coastal pine forest on foot up to a wooden bridge where you can find a Park sign indicating the path to follow.
Continue on the crest of the Uccellina Mountains until you reach the Benedictine Monastery of S. Rabano and the Torre dell’Uccellina.
Cala di Forno
This second itinerary takes tourists to the bay of Cala di Forno, with dunes rich in vegetation characteristic of the place.
The first part of the route appears to be in common with the itinerary previously presented, at the Ponte di Legno then follow the signpost A4 walking for about an hour to the bay.
Once you arrive you can enjoy the wonderful panorama and, depending on the season, take advantage of the sea for a nice regenerating bath.
