Keeping cool – requires planning!

June, July and August are generally very hot months in Italy in general and in Tuscany in particular. Especially the area below the Apennines where Florence is located things can get very sticky!

Keeping cool requires some forward planning

Whilst seeing some sun after the winter is often most welcome, there can be too much of a good thing. We are so lucky at Villa Campestri as being situated fairly high in the hills we enjoy lower temperatures than the valley area, and some gentle breezes which are always welcome!

But if you find the heat taxing here are some guidelines to help you get the best out of your stay.

  • Up early (not too early!) and have a good breakfast while temperatures are cooler. Eat you carbs early on in the day so that you can keep things lighter later on.
  • Enjoy our pool area (using plenty of sunscreen).
  • Gentle walks in the wooded areas taking advantage of shade can be a delight.
  • Take advantage of our SPO (salus per oleum) beauty treatments to leave your skin luxurious and smooth, and your mind relaxed.
  • Try an olive oil massage within the bamboo grove beside the pool; it’s impossible not to come away without feeling like a new person.
  • Lose yourself within a yoga routine run in the park by Villa Campestri experts and free your mind of … everything!
  • Wear light natural fabrics, and make a rule of always seeking the shade.
  • Lunch at our Restaurant L’Olivaia should be light and nutritious – lots of salads, carpaccios, vegetables, fish and fruit.
  • Drink water water and water during the day – stay away from gassy sodas and limit your alcohol intake.
  • Retire to your room and chill during the afternoons; children can sleep and you can read/catch up on emails/check the news … or sleep.
  • Return outside at about 4/5pm and enjoy the end of day sunshine, which is a real pleasure.
  • Don’t even think about dining until about 8pm, and now is the time to indulge in some fabulous food and wonderful wines.

If you are going to Florence (or elsewhere sightseeing) plan your day. Most restaurants for example in Florence are not air-conditioned. You might want to include some department stores on your sight-seeing list to take advantage of some cool air. Again, drink water, water and more water.

This is your time, slow time. Take it easy and listen to your inner Italian self! And you will be as cool as a cucumber.
