Cycle mania in Tuscany
You could hardly not notice if you were here – Florence has been taken over by the cycle brigade. The World Cycling Championships are being contested right here this year. And Florence is feeling all the very good and very bad feelings associated with hosting a major world event.
If you want to keep up with the latest goings on, to know who won what, who fell off and who got lost! This is the place to do it.
There are a whole host of collateral events being organised in Tuscany to coincide with the championships, such as the Pinocchio Bike School, involving 1300 students and created to get young people focused on road safety and awareness. The event will directly involve in particular students from the area close by the Pinocchio Park at Collodi.
If you are interested in being more directly involved in the championships you can book yourself tickets to be at the finish zone for several of the races. Or you can check out the courses and grab yourself a spot along the route, make friends with lots of the locals who will be hanging around to cheer people on and have a fun day. Remember to take yourself along a packed lunch and some water, as some of the routes are through countryside where there are no easily available facilities.
