5 Movies Shot in Tuscany We Love
As we imagine many of you are getting excited to come visit us at Villa Campestri Olive Oil Resort (we hope) in Tuscany, we suggest watching a little cinema inspiration before you come. There are many famous movies (and lesser-known ones too) that are worth watching to help you get into the Tuscan spirit. Enjoy our list of top five ones that we personally all enjoy! 
1. A Room with a View (1985)
One of our favorites, ”Room with a view’ is a British romance drama film directed by James Ivory and produced by Ismail Merchant of E. M. Forster’s 1908 novel of the same name. Set in the Tuscan city of Florence, the lively and young Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham-Carter) is touring Italy with her older cousin and meets an interesting boy by the named of George Emerson.
2. Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)
Probably the most quintessential movie about Tuscany, after a devastating life moment Frances Mayes leaves her life in San Francisco behind to start a new life in Tuscany. While on tour she randomly buys a villa in the countryside of Cortona and the adventures start from there, a fun film to watch!
3. Amarcord (1973)
A great film that we recommend everyone watch at least once. This Italian comedy-drama film was directed by the great Federico Fellini, and Amarcord is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age tale about Titta, an adolescent boy growing up village of Borgo San Giuliano (near the ancient walls of Rimini) in 1930’s fascist Italy. The film features a series of eccentric characters and really gives an insight into Fellini’s childhood.
4. Life is Beautiful (1997)
We couldn’t forget about this absolutely incredible film directed by Roberto Benigni. In this courageous story, a gentle Jewish-Italian waiter who goes by the name of Guido Orefice (Roberto Benigni), meets Dora (Nicoletta Braschi who is Benigni’s real life wife), a pretty schoolteacher, and wins her over with his charm and humor during WWII Italy. This is a tragedy and comedy and packs an emotional punch.
5. The English Patient (1996)
A beautiful and very tragic movie set in a tiny Tuscany town. “In the final days of the Italian Campaign of World War II, Hana, a French-Canadian nurse working and living in a bombed Italian monastery, looks after a critically burned man who speaks English but cannot remember his name.” It received 12 nominations at the 69th Academy Awards, eventually winning 9.
