3 good Reasons To Visit Tuscany this Spring
With the stronger dollar and an economy slowly getting better in many areas around the world, 2015 is being slated as a prime time to visit the land ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’.
As we at Villa Campestri olive oil resort are preparing to reopen later this month, the 27th, we are very excited to greet our guests in just a few short weeks. It is always a tremendous amount of work to get prepared in the off-season, especially after plenty of snow, but we are up for the challenge. Also our restaurant Ristorante L’Olivaia is coming up with a special spring menu that we are excited to soon share with you all.
1. Nature Train in Tuscany
Besides the fact that Spring is such a beautiful time to enjoy Tuscany’s nice weather, there are some pretty good reasons to come visit this March, April and May. One such reason is to enjoy the the historic steam train ‘nature train’ that is a really nice family activity that we highly recommend, running March 22 to May 31st. By taking this train, you are able to savor slowly the wonderful landscapes of Crete Senesi, Val d’Orcia and Monte Amiata. It is even running on Easter Sunday and stops at towns with festivals or local fairs. Read more about this here.
2. Parks and Walks Galore!
Visiting in Spring means that you can visit some famous local parks in Tuscany that normally are extremely crowded in the summer months. In the Mugello Valley near our resort, we not only have a park and nature trail next to us, but for those interested in bird and fauna watching, they are also have the Oasi Naturalistica di Gabbianello, which is a great place to visit along with the Lago di Bilancino. For those sticking closer to Florence, you have the opening of the Rose and Iris Gardens near Piazzale Michelangelo and several pretty parks located around the city, check out this list.
3. Let’s Talk About Food!
Naturally with the spring, comes foods and vegetables that come to maturation during this season. Some of our favorite dishes we make during this time include the very Tuscan Pinzimonio (sliced veg to be dipped with olive oil and salt), also we enjoy dishes with artichoke, lamb and asparagus and for dessert, strawberries!
As for festivals to watch out for, gelato lovers will thank us later – the festival celebrating Italian ice cream in Florence runs this year from April 30th to May 3rd. in late May many Tuscan wine cellars will open to the public for tastings and event for the annual ‘Cantine Aperte’ on May 30-31.
