3 Exhibits to Check Out This Summer in Tuscany
Without a doubt, people have been coming to Italy to seek out inspiration in its rich cultural art history. While undoubtably the ‘main’ sites such as the Uffizi Museum or Accademia gallery are high on anyone’s lists and they should be, there are plenty of interesting exhibits worth exploring this spring and summer all over in Tuscany, here are our top picks.
1. “The Shadow of the Etruscans
Symbols of a people between the plains and hills, Prato, Tuscany.” Explore the sacred traditions and burial rituals of the Etruscan population that lived north of the Arno river in a wide area covering the plains of Florence, Prato, Pistoia and the Mugello Val di Sieve and Montalbano area. address: Museum of Palazzo Pretorio, Piazza del Comune, 59100 Prato PO. 2. “Splendid minima, Precious small sculptures in the Medici collections”
The Uffizi Galleries house the most important collection in the world of small sculptures in semi-precious stone carved chiefly in the Hellenistic and Roman eras, an extremely rare sample of glyptic art. No longer widespread during the Middle Ages, this art was rediscovered, thus receiving a new life and impulse, during the Renaissance period.
This exhibition – the first ever to explore this specific theme – not only brings together the entire Medici collection of micro-sculptures but also showcases other works of sculpture carved in precious materials in such a way as to offer the visitor comparisons capable of highlighting the unique chromatic, technical and stylistic features of these objets d’art. 3. Robert Capa in Tuscany
Another reason to visit the town of a many towers is to stop at the Raffaele De Grada Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, via Folgore da San Gimignano 11. This fascinating exhibition is dedicated to the great war photographer Robert Capa, who tells with 78 images in black and white the years of World War II in Italy. A must see for any history enthusiast. Until July 10th.
