The Chianti wine of Rufina
Rufina, for the Tuscans “The Rufina,” is a small town in the Province of Florence. This area between Val di Sieve and the Mugello which includes the municipalities of Dicomano, Londa, Rufina, Pelago and Pontassieve produces the Chianti Rufina, a red wine that has always been appreciated.
The grapes of the vineyards of the Chianti Rufina reach optimum ripeness thanks to the geology of the land, consisting of marl and limestone and thanks to the region’s sun exposure in the south-south-west of the land situated up to 400 meters above sea level. This microclimate with high daytime temperatures and cool nights in summer contributes to the maintenance of aromatic notes and to the development of strong acidity.
Tradition has it that every year, at the end of September, a cart drawn by two white oxen (the “Carro Matto“) brings bottles of Chianti Rufina to Florence.
