The tradition of the Feast of the Immaculate
Throughout Italy, December 8 is a long-awaited day as the Immaculate Conception is celebrated.
Each city celebrates this important Catholic dogma with celebrations and anniversaries since it was proclaimed by Pope Pius IX on 8 December 1854.
Being December 8th a public holiday, or a day off from work, it is also an excellent opportunity for short trips out of town, and when it falls on a Monday or Friday, it is the right opportunity for strategic bridges to lengthen the week-end.
On this long-awaited day, there are many things to do, from romantic weekends to magical moments of relaxation as a couple, to a 2-day discovery tour of art cities.
The magic of this feast is also in the fact that in all the cities you can breathe a Christmas air, complete with lights and themed markets.
In Florence, for example, the Christmas market in Piazza Santa Croce is very famous, visited every year by thousands of tourists and onlookers from all over the world. You can enjoy pretzels, strudels, mulled wine, but also buy beautiful crafts from Northern Europe. The little ones can have incredible souvenir photos in Santa’s house.
