Starting our 2014 Olive Oil Harvest

This past week the Pasquali family has started our 2014 olive oil harvest, as you can imagine a very important time of year for Villa Campestri Olive Oil Resort.

Harvest time means a lot of hard work but we have a lot of happy smiles as everyone pitches in to create what is our tradition and livelihood, high-quality extra-virgin olive oil straight from our corner of the Mugello Valley. Starting in late October and ending in early November, everyone lends a helping hand.

Doing the harvest by hand is a lot of work, yet we insist on doing this because we believe it damages the olives less and maintains the quality of the trees. We have special net to catch all of the olives as we ‘comb’ olives off each tree, a fun experience for any first-time harvester watching. Pressing the oil must be done within 24 hours to maintain the standard of oil that we believe in, the freshness of that perfect green, earthy flavor is absolutely incredible.

Every detail is important, we even have this video from 2011 that puts you right up there in the olive grove. This recent article by USA today takes you back to our resort to experience what it’s like as harvest seasons nears. Below is a special slideshow from this year’s harvest, already we can spot that amazing, ‘green gold’ that is fresh olive oil from Tuscany, enjoy!
