You have no idea how excited we are. Our own Villa Campestri honey – the very first harvest,
Our “honey expert” takes care of our hives and harvests the honey that is produced. We are absolutely passionate making honey. We think our hives and bees are in pretty safe hands.
The bees fill the individual cells of the honeycomb which they construct in moveable frames with honey. When the beekeeper decides that the time is right he slides out the frames and gets them into his lab where the honey extraction is conducted.
Each cell within the honeycomb is closed with a plug of wax, which has to be removed in order for the honey to be released. This is generally done by sliding a knife across the surface of the frame. Next the frames are placed into the machine which actually released the honey via centrifugal force – the honey frames are spun at high speed and release their precious load.
The honey collected is then placed in a second machine which places the honey into sterile jars and seals each jar. A Villa Campestri label is applied, next stop for the jar of honey is on your breakfast table at Villa Campestri! Buon appetito!
