Easter 2015 in Tuscany: What to Do

Easter is one of the biggest holidays in Italy and celebrations kick off this Sunday (domenica delle palme) March 29th and last until Pasquetta, the day after Easter on April 6th. This is a wonderful time to be in Tuscany if seeing traditions live in person is what you’re after, the combination of the Holy Week and warmer weather means that people are in a great mood and there is plenty to do.

We think this is the perfect time to hop in your car, drop your bags off at Villa Campestri Olive Oil Resort and discover the Tuscan countryside, the Mugello Valley is especially nice this time of year and is much less saturated with people than the summer months. Picnic in our park, walk among the budding fauna and soft sun, enjoy our brand new spring menu at Restaurant L’Olivaia.

We have special offers this spring if you book before the end of April, you can get 20% off your entire stay, which includes breakfast.

You can visit the many Medici Villas that are dotted all around the countryside, the regions most famous family held much of the cultural artifacts that we prize today, including these incredible beautiful villas.

Otherwise we recommend hopping on the nature train (which runs from March 22 – May 31st) in some very gorgeous countryside, you can find more details here.

In Florence, the best thing to do during Easter is to see the “Scoppio del Carro” or explosion of the cart, one of the cities oldest traditions which happens every Easter Sunday in front of the Duomo Cathedral. The fun starts around 10am and includes about 600 participants in historical costumes, flag-throwers and much more. It is quite the sight to see!
