Bilancino Lake: beaches, sporting activities and relax in the heart of Mugello
A stretch of crystal clear water, nestled between the hills of Mugello, surrounded by the beauty of nature, so as to accommodate the oasis of the WWF, but also suitable for recreational activities such as fishing, sailing or simply relaxing by the beach: the Bilancino Lake, 20 km from Villa Campestri Olive Oil Resort.Artificially created by the will of the region Tuscany and the municipalities to resolve the problem of water supply in the area between Florence and Prato, Bilancino Lake was inaugurated, together with the dam, in 1999.
Known to all as the Lake of Tuscany, Bilancino Lake has become in recent years a point of attraction for the Mugello not only for the beauty of its landscapes, dotted with historic castles such as the Medici Trebbio or the Romanesque church of San Giovanni in Petriolo, but also for recreational activities you can do here: sailing, thanks to the Mugello Yacht Club, which organizes courses for adults and children, as well as races for the blind, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing. Also in the designated areas you can fish freely.
The lake has two beaches with bathing facilities. Nature lovers can instead take advantage of the Gabbianello Oasis: here you can see birds such as the knight of Italy, the bittern, the garganey, the white stork, and the pink flamingo, thanks to the excursions organized by the WWF environmental guides.
