A day trip in Tuscany that is well worth embarking on . Just two hours from Villa Campestri there is the famous Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia, on the slopes of Piombino and the Gulf of Baratti, a stunning setting of rare natural beauty in the heart of the Tuscan coastline. The park itself contains the archaeological monuments from the ancient city of Populonia. The traces of the cemeteries and monuments of the city are a sign of the very real importance of this center in Etruscan and Roman times.
A picturesque path leads to the top where there are the remains of the first Etruscan town of Populonia.
At the center of the town is the area with the monumental Roman temples overlooking the square and the front of the “lodges”, the powerful terracing that for centuries marked the landscape of Populonia. (We provided some pics from our trip in the photo gallery below).
Perfect for kids & adults, we highly recommend visiting this majestic place!
