Huge discovery dating back 2,600 years in the Mugello area of Tuscany by a blind archeologist on his first ever dig! The image displayed above us is the oldest found in the western world in an Etruscan settlement in our area of Italy. The Open University in the UK and a variety of American Universities were responsible for the excavation in the Poggio Colla area.This amazing feat in the world of Archeology was found by graduate student, William Nutt who is legally blind and on his first ever dig. According to an article in the Daily Mail Uk, Nutt said “It was thrilling to find out that it was so significant. To make a discovery like that, which provides important new information about a culture we know so little about, is exactly what makes archaeology and anthropology so appealing.”
A bucchero ceramic vessel (used only by the Etruscan elite) contained the images dates back to around 600 BC and display the shoulders and head of a baby emerging from his (goddess) mother.
