The Model Forest of the Florentine Mountains is the first Model Forest in Italy. It is situated in an area in Tuscany that spans 548 km squared and comprises seven municipalities:
1. San Godenzo
2. Londa
3. Pontassieve
4. Rufina
5. Pelago
6. Rignano sull’Arno
7. Reggello
The idea of the Model Forest was born in Canada and its goal is to achieve better management and sustainable use of forests and forest landscapes by increasing the quality of life in rural areas. This vision of the Model Forest led to the creation of the brand “FMMF Wood“—“FMMF il Legno” in Italian— which regulates the production and sale of wood from the 7 municipalities of the Model Forest ensuring the local origin of the raw materials and the sustainability of production. This wood brand in fact comes from cuts properly authorized and controlled by the Union of the Municipalities of Valdarno and Valdisieve, and as a result its production is sustainable, legal and environmentally friendly.
For all lovers of nature there are many activities organized in the Model Forest of the Florentine Mountains such as hiking, mountain biking, pony or donkey riding.
During the summer, there is “The Forest Party” which holds musical events and a series of conferences and seminars on environmental culture.
