The origins of Ferragosto

Today Ferragosto represents a single day of celebration while in the past the celebrations were much longer.

The term Ferragosto derives from the Latin Feriae Augusti, weekdays introduced by the emperor
August. These festivals occurred in August when all activities were suspended and there was the
costume of have fun and making gifts.

Ferragosto therefore originally was not a limited party on August 15th but lasted all month.

Today, on August 15th, besides being the vacation day par excellence within the holiday period, we celebrate the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Ferragosto lunch in Mugello

In Italy tradition has it that the day of Ferragosto is enriched by an abundant lunch with friends and relatives.

Restaurants and taverns in all the Tuscan towns offer delicious Ferragosto menus, but lovers of healthy, simple and tasty cuisine are invited to immerse themselves in the reality of a Tuscan territory halfway between Florence and Bologna, the one in Mugello.

In Mugello they will be able to discover a cuisine and a wealth of products from the land that have preserved over time the authenticity of their traditions, such as the famous Tortelli di Patate.

The gastronomy of this area a few kilometers from Florence offers typical Tuscan specialties such as grilled meats, game and the typical steak, all accompanied by an excellent wine.

Fireworks on the Bilancino Lake
On August 15 starting at 10:30 pm it will be possible to participate in a great fireworks display that will illuminate the stretch of water and the shores of Lake Bilancino.
Throughout the day it will be possible to enjoy the coolness of the lake while walking among stalls and food stands.

Foodie feasts of Ferragosto
There are many food festivals planned for the day of Ferragosto in Mugello. Near Borgo San Lorenzo, in Sagginale, it is possible to taste the classic Mugello tortelli to be served with grilled meat and steak.

Tortello festival also in Firenzuola and Polenta festival in Traversa, part of the municipality of Firenzuola (FI).

The Feast of Ferragosto held in Palazzuolo sul Senio is set in one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. All lovers of good Tuscan cuisine absolutely cannot miss it.

Mugello Circuit
For all two-wheel lovers there is no better way to celebrate Ferragosto than with a run on the track. At the Mugello circuit it will be possible to enroll in a day of timed practice.
