The Watermills of Mugello
The watermill signals a true and proper revolution of agricultural techniques used in the country related to the use of water as a source of energy. This technology gradually allowed the replacement of animals and it also allowed for a higher amount of energy available and a greater quantity of products.
In the territories of Mugello the presence of watermills had been widespread ever since the Medieval period and they were primarily intended for the grinding of various grains, such as wheat, corn and dry chestnuts for human consumption and orzo and oats for fodder for the livestock.
