Basilica of Santa Maria all’Impruneta
This basilica has a very particular history, strongly linked to the discovery of a splendid icon of the Madonna.
In fact, according to an ancient tradition, during the construction works the walls behaved like Penelope’s canvas.
As they rose brick by brick during the day, the walls fell apart at night. One day the stones were loaded onto a cart pulled by oxen and it left freely until it stopped at a precise point.
Digging the ground at that point, the sacred image dedicated to the Virgin was found, which since that moment has received particular veneration from all believers.
Sanctuary of the Madonna di Valdibrana in Pistoia
This sacred building in the province of Pistoia, which was built in the seventeenth century, begins its story with a very fascinating tale.
A shepherdess of the time suddenly had a mystical vision of the Madonna.
The Virgin is said to have indicated a point under which a sacred icon was buried.
Digging among brush and stones, the icon came to light and they wanted to build the Sanctuary of the Madonna of Valdibrana right in the spot where the Madonna appeared to the shepherdess.
Shrine of Mary Most Holy Mother of Divine Providence in Pancole
Along the Via Francigena, a few kilometers from the center of San Gimignano, the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima Madre della Divina Provvidenza is very revered.
This sanctuarywas born in place of an aedicule complete with a fresco of the Virgin. It seems that in the seventeenth century a miracle took place in this place.
A dumb and very poor girl named Bartolomea Ghini had the vision of a lady who gave her voice again and made her find bread, oil and barrels of wine in her pantry.
Sanctuary of Montenero
Built in the years of Pentecost, in 1345, the legend tells that when a poor crippled shepherd found the image of the Virgin Mary he went to the Montenero hill.
That was a hill that did not enjoy a good reputation and was actually called the “devil’s mountain”, but after that miraculous vision of the poor shepherd, it was decided to build a sanctuary.
