Cycle mania in Tuscany

You could hardly not notice if you were here – Florence has been taken over by the cycle brigade. The World Cycling Championships are being contested right here this year. And Florence is feeling all the very good and very bad feelings associated with hosting a major world event.

Way up high in an apple tree …

Just a short distance from Vicchio di Mugello it’s as though a tiny area of Trentino (way up in nothern Italy) was relocated to Tuscany! La Azienda Agricola La Matteraia owned by the Malpaga family has been cultivating bio-apples which are almost exclusively grown in the Trento area; Royal Gala, Renette, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith.

All glitz and glamour right next to the gently lapping waves of the Mediterranean. How fortunate the Pasquali family were to be invited to this most amazing event held on Sunday evening at Forte dei Marmi on the Tuscan coast.

The end of the summer, the beginning of the grape harvest

There is nothing that more signifies the end of the summer season than the slow tractors on the roads and the seasonal workers in their droves dotted across the vineyards. Grape picking – the harvest in Tuscany takes place between the end of August and mid-October usually, depending on the grape and the weather.
