Truffles are famous – Romans hailed them for their aphrodisiac qualities, and they can be found in many mountainous areas of Italy and are used in haute cuisine and innovative kitchens the world over. The rare and expensive white truffle can cost from 600 to over a 1,000 euros per pound. At Villa Campestri – the first olive oil resort in Tuscany, we offer our guests the opportunity to go ‘tartufo’ hunting with a truffle expert and his dog.

Huge discovery dating back 2,600 years in the Mugello area of Tuscany by a blind archeologist on his first ever dig! The image displayed above us is the oldest found in the western world in an Etruscan settlement in our area of Italy. The Open University in the UK and a variety of American Universities were responsible for the excavation in the Poggio Colla area. (more…)
